About Me

On August 25, 1993, Amy made her transition from her eventful life on earth to an even larger life of committed service to the under-served and to the hopeful. The Amy Biehl Foundation draws breath and inspiration from Amy and her example. It is a creation of family and friends who loved her in life, and is now extended by many hundreds of new friends - young and old - who want to make a constructive difference in their world and who enjoy doing this in Amy's name.

A special thank you!

The foundation is happy and proud to welcome volunteers and interns. Some stay for a short period, others for a long time. All of them make an impact on the organization by bringing in creativity from various cultural backgrounds. This diversity is necessary and causes for a unique atmosphere both in the office and in the Townships during After School programs.

A special thanks to those devoted to giving their time to the foundation. Please take a look at our volunteering page on www.amybiehl.co.za if you are interested to participate in this wonderful project!

Have a nice weekend!

Vehicle Sponsorship

The Amy Biehl Foundation was recently given a vehicle sponsorship by the Reeds Motor Group. The brand new Opel Corsa will allow the Foundation to greatly improve its efficiency in rendering valuable developmental and empowerment programmes to the youngsters over the festive season and beyond. Director of Reeds, Kevin Denicker, said, “We truly believe that the Foundation is committed to making a difference through community building efforts by tackling crime, HIV Aids, gangs, violence and poverty in order to give children hope and a brighter future.”

Hockey Training with Netherlands Club

Thirty township girls, aged 12 to 15 years, from Cape Town will learn how to boost their hockey skills during a training spree with a Netherlands Ladies Hockey Club, HV HIC, from Amstelveen. The sports development programme will take place on 8 and 12 February 2010 at Hartleyvale. The overseas club has travelled to South Africa to help grow the sport in the country and make a positive impact on the lives of the children.

This is the second overseas hockey club that has offered to participate in the Trust's sports development programme. Since 2006 the Lurgan Ladies Hockey Club from Northern Ireland has been coming to South Africa each year for a week-long hockey and soccer skills academy.

The sports development programme provides a safe and supportive environment for children to experience the physical and mental challenges associated with sport. It provides an opportunity for local youth to develop their skills and to channel their energies into healthy and constructive activities. Currently, over 150 students per week are trained in soccer, netball and field hockey.

Kids enjoying a holiday camp

A hundred children from various townships in Cape Town have enjoyed a three-day camp at Koggelberg in Grabouw. The camp provided them with an opportunity to experience life in a completely different environment, other than the township, and have loads of fun.

Various facilitated sessions were organised for the children, including team building, leadership, HIV/ Aids awareness, storytelling etc. The children love going on the camps as it's such a novel experience for them and the results of the interactions that take place are phenomenal.

A second group of more than a 100 children are currently camping at Eagles Nest in Franschoek.
